Food miles don't feed climate change - meat does
That locally-produced, free-range, organic hamburger might not be as green as you think.
An analysis of the environmental toll of food production concludes that transportation is a mere drop in the carbon bucket.

In fact, for vegetables, a mere 11% of the emission comes from food traveling, and for red meat, a tiny 1%! Of course that doesnˇ¦t mean we should brush off the issue of food miles completely, but eating LESS MEAT is hands down MUCH more powerful in combating global warming than substituting Kobe steak (be it from Japan or Texas) for the sirloin from your neighboring farm.
